Do your own Messenger Bag

September 20, 2008

Some weeks ago my sister said she also wants a bag like Little Sweety. So she got a Little Red Messenger Bag for her birthday. Little Red Fabric is from superbuzzy, red fabric for lining is from IKEA.

I use to make this bag out of one piece of fabric, as you can see on the drawing. This is not really a tutorial or pattern – it is up to your creativity how the bag will look like at the end.

You only have 4 seams: first you sew sides to bottom, then sides to back. You can make it any size you want. You can line it or not, use a closure or not, make the front as long as the back/flap or not, rounded corners on the front or not. There are many different possibilities for the strapes and where to attach them to the bag.

You can download this pattern for private use. You can publish it if you link to its origin.

great and simple design! we’ll be using it this weekend. just one point – i think that perhaps “front” and “flap” need to swap place, on your diagram?
