Where with all these fabric scraps?

2009 July 9
by Sara

Tonight I converted 4 x 0,5m of yellow, red, blue and green sweater fabric into pieces for 2 hooded sweaters and one pant for Keksi. But why is the stack of scraps higher than the piled pieces I will use for sewing?

I´m the sort of person who can´t throw any fabric (although I don´t show this habit of gathering things in other areas). But if I want to keep all this pieces I need a bigger house! I´ll think it over…

Birthday mass production

by Sara

Today is Little Sweety´s Birthday. Also Sister N´s boy is born today. That´s one mass production. And here is the other…

DSC07381

Made a tank top for Little Sweety and a similar one for Sister N´s boy. As it´s never funny when your brother gets too many gifts Sister N´s girl also gets something – a tank top dress or how it´s called..

He saved my life. Thanks.

The Boy´s Outfit

2009 July 4
by Sara

A flower shirt.

DSC07233

I started on sewing this shirt in January I think. But somehow I didn´t enjoy it. 24 hours before the wedding neither my outfit nor Little Sweetys was finished. I guess I need the “do-it-the-last-minute-tension”. To cope I had to outsource work, my mother-in-law got the job to finish this shirt (buttons and collar)

We had a wonderful party – thanks to my mum and everybody else who helped!

The Party Tent

2009 July 3
by Sara

OK, so now you´ve been waiting soooo long for my outfit for the wedding and now? a tent?! I will tell you something….

If you´re celebrating a party and you´re unsure of how the weather will be like you need…. a party tent.

If you´re going to attend a wedding party in a wheelchair you need – regardless of the weather – a party tent. (believe me a dress is highly impractically in a wheelchair)

I skipped the part of the list where it says “bottom part for my outfit” and decided to use some white pants I have in stock.

So, now I´m off to the wedding – with my tent. Another one is not needed `cause the sun is shining!

Pimp the Dress

by Sara

Two weeks ago I got a phone call from my brother´s girlfriend…. from the fitting room…

“I can´t wear white at the wedding can I?” “…No…not really…” “But it´s white with small black dots?” “Hm…better…what kinda dress?” “50s strapeless tea-length” “Get some color to it. What about a red or pink petticoat?” “Yesss! Could you?…Pleeease….”

Sorry for the chaotic scenery (but should it not be looking like that at an artists working place?! – I guess I´m a great artist ´cause it always looks like that…)

Summer Activity

2009 June 27
by Sara

When days get hot (no, not yet but hopefully soon) and evenings warm it´s of course difficult to stay inside next to your sewing machine. But it is also difficult to take your sewing machine with you outside.

So what I will do is to order this book and start getting into crochet. Have been thinking of it already the last months but now it seems to be the perfect garden activity.

I found some great tutorial videos here. If you have any other great links concerning crochet – gimme!

Det är alltsa virka jag tänkte prova…..

Meedom`s Børnetøj 4-7

2009 June 24
by Sara

When I started sewing my mother-in-law (who is a professional dressmaker) showed me how to make a pattern myself using garments I have at home. But of course you sometimes want to sew something you don´t have at home… and some clothes are just too difficult to do your own pattern for.

I´ve read quite good things about the pattern books from Hanne and Sofie Meedom and decided to get Børnetøj 4-7 years.

meedom1

You´ll find basic pattern which are easy to alter.

bornetoj6

I´ve already chosen these 2 to be my first projects, but I have to be patient as I have plenty of other things waiting for me.

meedom2The book is only available in Danish at the moment, but I think I´ll manage with online translation helps.

Ps. I´ve been blogging now for almost a year and I just found out how I can increase the font size….hrm. Do you like it?

Through pouring rain…

… this fabric arrived and lightened up my day. It´s another vintage Graziela bedlinen from ebay. I´m thinking of making some table cloth out of it…hm.

Where did Summer go?

2009 June 20
by Sara

This year´s summer just doesn´t want to come along to stay. The last 3 days we had wonderful weather, the first late evenings could be spent outside without a jumper. And now? 15°C colder and rain….

DSC07068

Anyway, here are some pictures from yesterday´s midsummer-party, read about the Swedish tradition here. We managed to eat all the food just before it started raining. By the way, I have not done any progress in the sewing parts of my To-Do-list but in many of the other issues. So that feels good.

Relaxation Exercise

2009 June 17
by Sara

Yesterday evening I felt I need to do something that has nothing to do with the wedding. Something that calms me down, something to relax.

My D-darling uses to go into the garden and cut back roses or to repair his remote-controlled racing cars if he is in the need of relaxation. He says doing something where your thoughts are concentrated on one single simple issue brings the best result.

So I decided to sew simple shorts I already had cut the pieces for. Sewn in less than an hour, without thinking. One and a half years ago I would have needed at least 2 days for this kind of shorts and it would not have been relaxing. But today it´s a very easy exercise.

terryshorts_col

So now I´m relaxed and here´s my To-Do list – 16 days to go:

Sew my Outfit (top is cut – bottom part not)

Sew Little Sweetys outfit (finish a shirt and shorten a pant)

Sew a petticoat and a waistbelt for my brother´s girlfriend

Finish the Party Paper (I have not come very far yet)

Finish the picture/video presentation (I´ve come maybe half way)

I will have an open house-party for the Swedish relatives at my place 2 days before the wedding, for that I need to do:

Bake 5 cakes

Clean the entire house (or rather delegate the cleaning of the house – but believe me: often it is much more easier to be able to do things yourself)

Buy different food and prepare

Sew new cushions for outside out of this fabric (no, I have not done it yet)

And one small curtain is still missing

I´m not sure if I´ve forgotten something, but I also need to finish D-darlings tax declarations by the end of the month. I should not forget to buy birthday presents for Little Sweety who turns 4 beginning of July. And of course I need to do some work as well….

Cheerio my dear friends! Wish me luck!
